The Campbells

by T Campbell
(Charlottesville VA)

Back in the early 70's our Mother would take us to Colonial Beach every summer. We always stayed at Rock's Hotel right on the boardwalk. I remember playing on the beach and floating on our floats and being stung by jelly fish. Sometimes our next door neighbors would come stay at the hotel with us. I remember someone bringing homemade wine and they were all sitting on the balcony drinking wine in the evening. I remember them letting me taste it. My brother and I would get our corn dogs and sit on the bench and eat. We liked our corn dogs and snow cones. Our Mom, she liked the frozen custard. We also enjoyed eating at Parker's - always ordered the crab cakes. We would watch huge tables of people cracking and eating crabs for hours. They were all great times and great memories.
