10 Garfield Ave. is right on the shore of Monroe Bay at the corner with Boundary Street. It is on the waterfront and a parking lot lies in between the back of the church and the shoreline.
Front of Colonial Beach Baptist ChurchSince January of 1961 it is known as Colonial Beach Baptist Church. They held a Groundbreaking service at that time on the corner of Garfield and Boundary. Longtime church member Ralph Hall served as general contractor. The new building which cost $207,000 to build was dedicated in April of 1961.
The church had purchased the former Bay Shore Hotel property in 1957 or so for just $13,000.

1948: Mr. Charles Buete passed and his wife (Ann Van Deusen) ran it herself, changing the name of the rooming house to the Bay Shore Hotel. Meals were served twice daily, an 8:00 a.m. breakfast and dinner at 5:00 p.m.
1947: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buete purchased the property from Emma Lowe and contracted James Jett Sr. to put a bedroom and living room addition on the right-hand side of the house to balance out the earlier addition. The house now consisted of 21 rooms and 5 bathrooms.
Emma Lowe inherited the property from her mother Mrs. Tasskel and ran it as a rooming house. At that time the listed address was 1209 Garfield Ave.
Mrs. Tasskel renamed it Monroe House and hired Foster Wilkerson and George Self to construct an addition on the left side of the house.
In the 1920s it was the Sherman House, a three-story structure built as a private residence for the Sherman family.
