It all started with the "Crazy Burgers" food truck which was a big hit. Tania and Jose Acosta of Fredericksburg took the truck around to all sorts of different events, creating a burger of the month and using it as a fundraising effort for local fire houses as their way of supporting the community. There were some times when they had to close early as they were completely sold out. That's how much people loved their burgers! They even earned a Top 5 spot in the Best of Fredericksburg food truck category.
Four years later the "Crazy Potatoes" food truck was born featuring crazy stuffed baked potatoes. When they had time off from working the food trucks business, they spent their spare time here in Colonial Beach and pondered the idea of bringing a restaurant to town.
They quickly created a presentation to submit to the landlord on their vision for the former Ola's Country Kitchen restaurant location. He loved their plans and their history of community spirit and gave them the green light to proceed with their project.
In early 2023 they renovated the restaurant building, expanding it and reworking the storefront. The townfolk were all abuzz and soon their Facebook page was drawing large crowds of curious customers clamoring for previews of food and drink items.
They submitted their application to the Virginia ABC in late February of 2023 and they flew a large "Coming Soon" banner on the fencing outside the restaurant.
On April 17th they held a burger fundraiser for the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad with their famous Frenchie Burger and the Bacon Bleu Burger. The event was a big hit and the squad received 50% of the proceeds.
A May 2023 opening date was projected but, they actually opened in mid-June to rave reviews by customers from far and wide.
They even have their own beer! Fire Escape Mexican Lager which can be purchased at Highmark Brewery and at the restaurant.
Ola's Restaurant was such a fixture in the community for so many years. Fire Escape American Grille honors that memory by having some of their memorabilia and artwork on the walls for patrons to enjoy. It's a really sweet tip of the hat to a longtime Colonial Beach business.
Open daily except for Monday and on Sundays it is a brunch-only menu.
