  • Riverboat Idol
    Come on out this Friday at 9 pm. There are 8 contestants remaining: Tricia, Ashley, Charmaine, Janice, Matt, John, Julie, and Justin. This week they will be singing one Elvis Presley song and one Patsy Cline song. Three contestants from the Riverboat, Alley Cat, Sunset Grill and Damions will compete to win "RIVERBOAT IDOL" on August 15th at 2:00 pm. in the banquet room. 301 Beach Terrace, Colonial Beach VA 22443

  • 4th of July Events in Colonial Beach
    On Saturday the 3rd you can begin the day with a breakfast at the Rescue Squad building at 8am. At 11:00am the Ebb Tide Beach subdivision has their annual Parade and Picnic. Starting at 1pm you can grab some BBQ Chicken at the American Legion on Colonial Ave. As far as live music that night, you have your choice of Koolerators, Wil Gravatt or The Naturals.
    On Sunday, July 4th there's an Independence Day celebration at Washington's Birthplace, live music in town in the afternoon and Fireworks at 9pm from the Town Pier.

  • License Plates Last Call
    Hurry and turn in your designs for the official Colonial Beach License Plate. The Northern Neck Rivermen win their first game! They played Saturday night against the Virginia Monarchs and came out ahead - way ahead - with a score of 34 - 6. Good job, guys!

  • Rivermen Season Opener
    Come cheer on our own Semi-Pro Football team, the Northern Neck Rivermen. They will take on the Virginia Monarchs at Colonial Beach High School on Saturday night (June 26th) at 7:30pm.

  • A Tooth for a Tooth
    I was able to get out today and find some awesome shark's teeth on the beach near Colonial Beach. The weather was perfect and the water was warm. The teeth are so cool, and they are ancient!

  • Take Dad to Colonial Beach for Father's Day!
    Start off with a nce Breakfast Buffet at High Tides, Riverboat or Happy Clam. Then, over to Town Hill for the Classic Car Festival, the Westmoreland Berry Farm (Father's Day Celebration), Points Race at the Dragstrip or Westmoreland State Park (Fishing, GPS Hike, Kayaking). Finish off back in Town with a nice dinner at High Tides (Stuffed Rockfish special and Roadhouse on stage), Dockside, Riverboat, Hunan Diner or wherever Dad would like to eat. Happy Father's Day!

  • Wawaset Wreckage Found!
    Apparently Navy divers have located and marked the hull of the Steamboat Wawaset wreckage. The ship caught fire and sank on the way to Colonial Beach back in August of 1873.

    LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN TO BENEFIT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS VIRGINIA

    Beachgate Shopping Center Colonial Beach, VA


    Please come out and join the more than 3,000 officers across Virginia who will carry the Flame of Hope more than 1,900 miles across the State to the opening ceremony of the Summer Games in Richmond. The Colonial Beach portion of relay will begin at 700 McKinney Blvd. at the Beachgate Shopping Center in front of the Food Lion. Lunch will be provided to Torch Run participants following the run. Bicycle riders are also welcome. Official Torch Run t-shirts ($12) and hats ($10) are now on sale.

    Law enforcement officers who are interested in participating in the Torch Run and members of the public who wish to purchase a t-shirt, make a donation, or cheer on the runners should contact one of the following torch run organizers:

  • Northern Neck Strongman Competition
    On May 15th, Colonial Beach High School is hosting a Strongman Competition in conjunction with the Virginia National Guard. Students in grades 8-12 will compete in lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight classes in the following events: Tire Flip, Sand Bag Carry, Farmer's Toss, and Humvee Push. There will also be a team Tug-of-War. Athletes who wish to compete can obtain entry forms by e-mailing jjack@cbschools.net

  • Outdoor Photography Workshop near Colonial Beach Saturday, January 30th from 9-11am at Westmoreland State Park.
    The class will be a 2-hour program for digital photography and will cover: Your camera; composition & artistry; tools & settings. Techniques & shooting modes. In the field, advice and critique. Bring your camera and something to take notes. Part of the class will be outside, weather permitting, please dress appropriately. The class is free but parking fees will apply and participants will be asked to share photos taken with the park. Also, donations to help support programming can be made to the Friends support organization of the park. Reservations are required.     December 11 is the date, Colonial Beach is the place! It starts at 6 and goes til 8.

    An all-member exhibit of the Colonial Beach Artist Guild will be at the Potomac River Fisheries building this month.

    Jarrett-Thor Fine Arts Gallery is displaying works by Verna Galloway, a stained glass artist. Barry Sisson's digital photo art can also be viewed here.

    At the Colonial Beach Museum, Ms. Carol Resch will be there to celebrate the Museum's Holiday Open House.

    Tide’s Inn B&B will have Ms. Vickey Hluchanek as their featured artist, and at the Plaza B&B Lee Bonacci and new exhibitor Janice Jones will be displaying their works of art.

    Griffin Studio has invited Dell Ford, abstract painter and Sheila Ford, a potter.

    WideRiver Gallery will host an extravaganza of over 20 different artists displaying everything from glassworks to paintings to pottery.

    Team 4U Realty is hosting pottery by Hannah Janney.

    At The Bonus Room there will be an encore presentation of works by Hubert Jackson, Dr. Judi Morris and Andrea Clements.

  • November 2nd Friday Art Walk Preview
    Friday, November 13th is the date for this month's 2nd Friday Art Walk. Check out Charlotte Chorchen's crayon creations which closely mimic watercolors. Her art will be displayed at WideRiver Gallery, along with Jim Haynes' watercolor and graphic arts combination. The newly remodeled Westmoreland Furniture building is a new venue addition to the art walk circuit. You'll be able to see creations by Hubert Jackson, Dr. Judi Morris and Andrea Clement there. Just down the block at the Museum, you can see an encore exhibit of Gerald Higgs' art. Steve Griffin's latest pieces can be viewed at Bay Haven Landscape and Lynette Reed's work (paintings and jewelry) will be on display at Jarrett Thor Gallery. The Happy Clam will be showing drawings, acrylics and pastels by Joanne Coffey, Shirley Rush, and Kathy Waltermire. Award-winning photography by Mary Ann & Jim Stagner will be shown at the Potomac River Fisheries Commission building. Admission is free, so come and see!

  • Colonial Beach High School Homecoming Parade Oct. 1st, 2009!
    I'm told line-up is at 5pm and the parade begins at 6pm.

    The parade will begin in front of Lenny's and will proceed up Colonial Avenue to Euclid Avenue. We will then continue to First Street, with the parade ending in the high school parking lot. Individual high school classes, businesses, town officials, school administrators, organized clubs, sports teams, elementary students, etc. are all being invited to participate. Following the parade there will be a mini-street dance, class tug-of-war contests, car bash, and refreshments will be sold by the Boosters club.

  • National Parks Day 9/26 @ Geo. Washington Birthplace
    Saturday, September 26 from 10:00am to 5:00pm The George Washington Birthplace National Monument 4-H Heritage Club honors National Public Lands Day with colonial craft demonstrations such as hearth cooking and blacksmithing at 1:00pm at George Washington Birthplace National Monument.

    A behind-the-scenes-nature walk in the former Washington Family forests and fields will be led by Park Guide and Virginia Master Naturalist Fawn Palmer at 11:00am and again at 2:00pm. Information on the walking routes will be available at the park's Visitor Center.

    Volunteers are welcome to help the park hand-pull invasive weeds from 10:00am - 2:00pm with botanist Haynes Currie and park natural resources chief, Rijk Morawe and learn more about the native grasses that survive at the Birthplace.

    Admission to the park and special activities will be free in honor of National Public Lands Day.
